Simplicity Isn’t Simple
What you’ve been walking past might be disturbing your peace.
The last few days, I noticed how peaceful it is walking down the dirt road.
No traffic. Just the sound of nature.
I found myself thinking about our ancestors, what it must have felt like to live this close to the land.
Then I thought about my time living in Nicaragua.
No sound pollution.
No lawnmowers humming in the background.
No standing in a grocery store, overthinking between a hundred versions of the same thing.
Just… quiet.
Peaceful.
I came home thinking about simplicity. I even looked it up: Simplicity, one of the Four Elements of Balance and Peace in The Freedom Transmissions.
Simplicity isn’t as romantic as it sounds.
It’s not just dirt roads and fewer choices.
It’s facing the small things I’ve been avoiding.
The extra sugar I reach for without thinking.
The piles by the front door I keep walking around.
The ways I say I want peace… but still participate in the noise.
This July, I’ve been in a Fit Challenge with my friend Paola.
Three meals a day.
Move my body.
Rest.
Simple.
Not easy.
I didn’t realize how much my body was used to the spikes, the sugar, the quick hits of energy, the comfort.
Or how much mental clutter was sitting in physical clutter: binders of papers, old clothes, small decisions waiting for me.
Simplicity, I’m learning, isn’t about having less.
It’s about being honest with myself.
Where in my life am I choosing complexity that’s draining me?
The small, daily ones.
The habits I don’t question.
The things I keep meaning to get to but haven’t made space for.
What about you?
Where has noise become normal?
What are you holding onto that feels heavier than it needs to be?
I would love to hear what’s coming up for you.
I’m gathering a small group for a Full Moon Circle on Wednesday evening.
A space to slow down, release what’s been building, and return to what matters.

Clutter comes up for me. I’ve been working on our living space. It’s a slow process. Getting rid of over twenty five years of things I no longer use or need. Painted the living room, removed nick backs and clutter. Redid the bathroom from dark to bright and light. Still in the process of gutting both my bedroom closets and furniture. New carpet is in. Reorganizing clothes, shoes, dressers, paperwork and files. It’s overwhelming at times I have to step back. But it feels amazing when I sit in the living room (that is completed) I feel so much happier, relaxed, lighter, etc. Simplicity is so important.
